Airport in south-eastern China has recently introduced three additional security checkpoints marked in pink and dedicated them for the female air travellers. The security lanes will let the female travellers to cut the queue and avoid being scrutinised by male airport staff.
The female only security lines are scrutinised only by female staff at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport situated in China’s Guangdong province. Kids of either gender can accompany their mother for security check through these lanes. The airport authority has discovered that on Monday 19th September, the women only aisles have been used by over 3,600 female passengers.
Official from All China Women’s Federation, He Ying has informed, “Women usually need more time to get through security in airports, therefore opening such security lanes for women will certainly help the airport operate more smoothly. Opening a women’s security lane, like increasing women’s toilets, only shows care for women, not discrimination.”
One of the female security guards from the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Liang Yanfei has informed that women passengers usually bring more articles to board planes and the airport staff usually remind them to be prepared in advance for security checks for articles including cosmetics, mobile phones, iPads and personal belongings in order to save time.
Several of the female passengers at the airport have welcomed and appreciated the female lanes as they are convenient for women travellers. Many female passengers have also expressed that they do not like to stand close to the male guards while the guards scan their body with equipment.
Previously, the Beijing Capital International Airport along with other Chinese airports in Kunming, Wuhan and Shenzhen, has introduced the same kind of check lines at three terminals in the first half of 2016. The lanes at the Beijing airport are also marked by pink signs and they have proved to be more efficient than the other unisex lanes.
Earlier in 2016, the Chinese city of Zhengzhou has also launched a female only bus, in order to prevent the females from being harassed by men.
