Philippines shaken by 6.3 magnitude earthquake

Mindanao Island of Philippines was violently shaken by a strong earthquake on early Saturday morning that had a magnitude of 6.3. It ended up sending the construction workers and hotel guests scurrying away from buildings in Davao.
According to the US Geological Survey, initially the earthquake was reported to be of a magnitude of 6.5. It had struck around 6.53 a.m. and its epicenter was located at a distance of 114 from the eastern part of Davao, Mindanao.
The tremor was quite deep, about 69 km from the seabed.

However, the earthquake was not believed to cause a tsunami, as per the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. Also, there have been no reports of any kind of damage as a result of this earthquake.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 is generally considered quite strong and it is also capable of wreaking much havoc. However, Renato Solidum, head of the seismic agency of Philippines said that the after-effects of this earthquake have been neutralized by its depth and location.
Solidum added that there has been no damage due to the fact that the earthquake is offshore and relatively deep. This is the reason why the shaking was of Intensity V.

A security guard at Hotel Uno, Davao, named Dave Cabrera said the city had strongly felt the earthquake. He said that several guests of the hotel had left their rooms and rushed downstairs. He also said that this is the strongest earthquake that he experienced till date.
Nearly 1,000 construction workers who were building the Avida Towers close to the hotel were also evacuated, according to a security guard on the site known as Junrey Quiroa.
Since Philippines in based on the active Pacific Ring of Fire, it experiences frequent earthquakes.
On Saturday, a magnitude of 5.6 earthquake had struck Romania around 2.11 a.m. Generally, Romania is not often affected by earthquakes.
