The River Festival that is the three-day festival of the government that is conducted in Steung Treng province in the country of Cambodia is known to have lured as much as 140,000 local as well as international travellers, as declared by the Ministry of Tourism yesterday.
Thong Kon, the Tourism Minister said that as much as 60,000 tourists had attended the final day of the celebrations and the total number for the three days was 140,000.
He added that the tourists were both domestic and international.
The tourism officials of this province said that the grand three-day River Festival is actually a part of a strategy to attract eco-tourism investment to provinces in the northeast of the country. Kong Sophearak, the director of the statistics department at the Ministry of Tourism said that the River Festival is important not only because it has been appealing to foreign and domestic tourists, but also because it is portraying the potential for investment opportunities.
He added that they recognize the potential of the northeast in terms of fully functional services with regard to restaurants and accommodations.
Also, it makes it a great opportunity for investors.
The first River Festival was conducted in Kampong Cham and the second was in Kratie.
