Katarina Line, voted “Best Croatian DMC ” by leading industry professions, has launched a funding drive to help the Down Syndrome Associations of Dubrovnik and Rijeka in Croatia, donating one Euro – approximately one U.S. dollar – for every guest who books a cruise with them in 2017.  With the company serving more than 26,000 cruise customers a year, Katarina Line’s contribution will play an important role in helping to improve the quality of life for people with Down syndrome, providing them with superior medical care, education and employment.

The announcement came as part of the company’s observation of World Down Syndrome Day, which took place on March 21. Among other participants in the event was Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic’, who expressed his support and hope for “full equality” in society’s treatment of persons with Down syndrome.

“Down syndrome affects people of all races and nationality, with approximately one in 700 births displaying some degree of the genetic condition, meaning we all probably know a family that’s affected,” noted Daniel Hauptfeld, marketing director for Katarina Line.  “For us, it’s a very personal issue because two of our staff members have children with the condition, and it’s our way of showing them that they have the full support of our organization.”
