Transporting passengers and cargo from Beijing to New York will happen in two hours as per a team from the Chinese Academy of Science while the journey currently takes an average of 13 and a half hours.

A team of Chinese researchers stated that they have designed a hypersonic jet which can travel at the speed of 6,000 km/h  which will be 5 times faster than the speed of the sound.

The research headed by Cui Kai published a paper on the new design in this month’s Physics.Mechanics and Astronomy Journal stating that it will take a couple of hours to travel from Beijing to New York at hypersonic speed.

After testing a scaled-down model of the jet in a wind tunnel the team saw it reached speeds of 8,600km/h with low drag and high lift and the Concorde’s top speed was 2,179km/h.

It will be designed in a way with two layers of wings to reduce and drag which will  create more lift.

Dr Kevin Bowcutt, senior technical fellow and chief scientist of hypersonics for Boeing Research and Technology,stated last month when the talks of hypersonic travel were ramping of late it was certainly within the realms of rea,lity  and now they had the technology to finally execute it.

With X-51A WaveRider Boeing has dipped its toe in the water and is now working with Lockheed Martin to develop a jey-powered hypersonic aircraft, however both are quiet about the design.

The precursor of the hypersonic jets will be supersonic commercial planes which travel faster than 1,236km/h, the speed of sound.

Boom Supersonic intends to produce passenger aircraft at at MACH 2.2, or 2,335km/h that will start operations from 2023.

Around 50 passengers will e carried by the jet between NewYork to London  in three hours and 15 minutes, but the fares would be expensive coming $2,500 one way.
